Before the genies fled
human space, they tested Jack Rimes. He survived and became stronger.

The metacorporations fled Earth when
the United Nations cracked down on labor abuses, pollution, and playing
one nation against another. But the metacorporations need Earth and the
colonies to survive, so they've come back, and they're bent on taking
what's theirs: Earth. Rimes has seen the horrors of war, but what he
encounters fighting the metacorporate soldiers and their mercenaries
goes beyond anything he could imagine.
And when they push Rimes too far, he realizes he has no choice but to become like his enemy.
