โฆ Synopsis
AUTOSIM is an automatic, discrete event simulation generator developed by the Operations Research Section at the BHP Newcastle Steelworks. It has now been used for a number of years in developing simulation models in an industrial environment. The system to be simulated is first described as an Activity Cycle Diagram (ACD) which is then encoded for input to the AUTOSIM program generator. AUTOSIM, itself a SIMULA program, translates this code together with a number of simulation parameters into a complete working SIMULA program.
The construction of ACD's and the features built into AUTOSIM are described and illustrated by a simple example. Practical experience using the approach and gains in productivity and effectiveness are discussed.
