✦ Synopsis
This report examines the relation of blast crisis to whole body radiation a t the time of the atomic b o m b (ATB), and describes the autopsy findings in 23 cases of CGL with terminal blast crisis f o u n d among 101 CGL cases autopsied in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, d u r i n g the period 1949-1969. No evidence was found t h a t blast crisis was more frequent in A-bomb survivors w h o had been exposed t o ionizing radiation ATB t h a n i n non-exposed persons. Conseqpently, in this regard, as i n other parameters reported previously, postirradiation leukemia is shown t o be indistinguishable from "spontaneous" leukemia. The occurrence of blast crisis in this series is evaluated i n relation to prevalence, year of death, age at onset and death, d u r a t i o n of disease, sex, hemorrhagic manifestations, and leukemic infiltration in various organs.
