Abstract

This paper is concerned with the automation and control of grating spectrometers by digital techniques. The methods outlined include: a simple manually operated digital control; a dedicated logic system with data storage; data acquisition and control systems run by a computer in real‐time and time‐sharing modes. The performance of these methods is evaluated. A basic spectrometer control unit is described; this unit forms a module around which more general spectrometer control systems may be constructed.
