This paper discusses a new method for automatic adjustment of a dielectric filter in the factory process. Automatic adjustment using an equivalent circuit constructed by use of the circuit network theorem was presented previously. However, this method suffered from an exponential increase in computation when the number of circuit parameters increased.

In this paper we propose a new method that does not use an equivalent circuit. The method extracts feature parameters from the filter characteristics and estimates trimming variables by use of fuzzy reasoning. Several sub-modules are defined for local fuzzy reasoning and by running these sub-modules sequentially, the difficulties created by a large number of feature parameters are reduced. We evaluate this method by simulation and by means of an automatic adjustment apparatus.
