✦ Synopsis

Abstract

An electronic gas‐flow controller system called Advanced Flow Control (AFC), which controls not only carrier gas pressure at the column inlet but also the total gas flow including the split flow, was designed and evaluated. BASIC programming of repetitive analyses of standard mixtures under varied split ratios and pressure programs allowed automated optimization of those conditions for the desired column loading and resolution between adjacent peaks.

The use of sequentially coupled columns to achieve a binary liquid phase mixture has been simplified by the availability of zero dead volume fittings compatible with fused silica columns. The extent to which the velocity gradient through the coupled column affects the "apparent" liquid phase ratio c

## Abstract A procedure for the identification and separation of unknown compounds by capillary gas chromatography is described. The procedure involves a live retention time database and optimization of the separation. After initial chromatography of the sample, a rough search lists all the possibl

## Abstract An optimization procedure for multi‐step temperature programmed capillary GC was investigated for the detailed hydrocarbon analysis of gasoline. A set of twelve responses, represented by the value of the resolution of the most difficult separations, was selected from several isothermal
