✦ Synopsis

An on-line automatic system has been developed for the determination of local anaesthetics in untreated blood plasma samples. It utilizes supported liquid membrane extraction for initial sample preparation, a solid phase column for phase switching, and a capillary gas chromatographic final analysis. The extraction procedure is very selective, as no other compounds than the analytes are observed in the resulting chromatograms at low nanogram-per-milliliter concentration levels. The detection limits are about 1 ngrmL, and the precision is around 5%. The system is fully automated and permits the analysis of ca. 50 samples per day.
