✦ Synopsis
Working as a preferred partner with Airbus, Shamban Aerospace, part of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, was recently awarded two major wing-sealing packages for the new Airbus A380.
The combined value to Shamban Aerospace of the A380 contracts will be 8 million for an initial 7-year planned originalequipment construction period. This excludes requirements for spares once the aircraft has been brought into service.
Shamban Aerospace will provide flap-track fairing seals and other wing-sealing components in kit form, both directly to Airbus and to a first tier contractor. The seals optimize airflow over the wing sections during take-off and landing, increasing the aerodynamic efficiency of this very large aircraft.
The first parts will be delivered in December 2003, prior to the first flight of the aircraft in the first quarter of 2005. The components will be produced at the new Shamban Aerospace Centre of Excellence at Cadley Hill, Derbyshire, in the UK. This facility employs 150 people and specializes in the design, development and manufacture of composite airframe seals.
