✦ Synopsis

In the course of our present, investigations on the mechanism of stress-corrosion cracking, several i~te~est~g facts regarding failure, and also resistance to failure, of Cr-Ni-Fe stainless steels in boiling 42 per cent MgCl, test solution have been uncovered which we are reporting at this time. We are now able to produce laboratory heats of austenitic or ferritic Cr-N&Fe compositions that do not crack within 1 week ox more exposure to the test solution compared to a cracking time of about 1.5 hours for commercialtype 304 stainless steel.
