✦ Synopsis

The comparative absence of modern spectroscopic information is to be regretted, particularly since an mllu~own amount of m~terial lies bin.led, or hidden, in drawers in Pasadena.

While this is an important book, this reviewer has become somewhat disenchanted with the handbook or compendium approach. A series of advanced monographs with excensive reference material would, in this reviewer's opinion, be in many cases preferable. While such books also date rapidly, they have the advantage of presenting ~ more personal and unified viewpoint.
