Auger spectra of some liquid surfaces and the vapours above them are reported. In the spectrum ofbenzyl alcohol, the intensity ratio of the carbon and oxygen peaks changes significantly on condensation and it is concluded that the surface molecules are lying with the hydroxyl groups beneath them.
