Lorestoft: Fisheries Laboratory 1981. ISBK 0-907545-00-9. f. 10.00 A first Atlas of the seas around Britain was produced and circulated in 1976. It was followed by two revised editions. The new At'las consists of 75 coloured charts and associated texts, produced with an A3 page size. The Atlas is arranged in five sections dealing wit,h the physical, chemical and bioiogical background; 25 maps show the location of fisheries in the region. Other maps show additional industries or concern marine safety. The sheets are numbered, and the binding permits revisions or new sheets to be inserted. There are maps on salinity, temperature, bottom deposits, distribution of plankton, radionuclides, heavy metals and waste disposal, which also show sewage sludge dumping areas. The tcxt points out the most importa,nt features of the map and draws attention to the strength and weaknesses of the information-base. 'Source' and 'Further reading' references are also provided with each map. The compilation of this informative atlas must hare required much work.
