โฆ Synopsis
It is divided into two sections: mouth and throat disorders, and ear disorders. The atlas is intended to be a guide and practical aid to both the common and uncommon disorders of the mouth, throat, and ears in children. However, the variety of diseases presented is quite limited. The quality of the color photographs is very good or excellent, and the authors include some techniques in instrumentation used in the examination of the pharynx and ears in children.
The first section of the book focuses on acute pharyngitis. The second section briefly covers foreign bodies, otitis externa, and otitis media, and presents five photographic case histories of children with ear disease during upper respiratory infections. There is no mention of congenital diseases, except a photograph of a cleft palate, nor is anything said about neoplasia in children. Furthermore, photographs of the nose, nasopharynx, larynx, and trachea are absent.
The authors state that this is not a comprehensive atlas and that is true. This book may be of value to medical students and allied health personnel as an introduction to diseases of the oral cavity, oropharynx, and ear. It will be of little value to otolaryngology residents and practitioners.
