โฆ Synopsis
In a previous paper, the 3-D singularity that prevails at an angular point of a crack front was examined. Two cases can be distinguished according to whether the crack presents a notch or a corner in its plane. Here we concentrate on the case of a notch and examine the asymptotic behavior of the stress intensity factors along the crack front near the angular point. It is shown that these stress intensity factors go to infinity at that point. This means that crack propagation will occur in order to suppress the notch. 0 Elsevier, Paris asymptotic behavior / stress intensity factor / angular point / crack front

A partitioning plan combined with the generalized variational method is presented for studying the effect of a hole near a crack tip on the stress intensity factor. The hole is at an arbitrary distance relative to the crack tip and the influence of the distance is determined numerically. Consider
