✦ Synopsis

An asymptotic model is presented for the crackΒ±micro-crack interaction in a material characterized by a low resistance to shear. The material mentioned is obtained by homogenization of the discrete periodic structure used in the design of a catalytic monolith combustor. The results of the asymptotic analysis enable one to compute the stress-intensity factors and predict the shape of the crack trajectory.

A subinterface crack paralleling an interface between two dissimilar orthotropic solids is analyzed. When the distance between the interface and crack is small compared to all other in-plane lengths, a universal relation between stress intensity factors of the subinterface crack and the interface st
