✦ Synopsis

The origin of biomolecular asymmetry could be found in asymmetric photochemistry in interstellar regions. It is assumed that the amino acids were formed in these regions. The irradiation of solid d,lleucine probes with right circularly polarized synchrotron radiation at 182 nm produced an enantiomeric excess of the d enantiomer of 2.6 %. The inÑuence of hydrogen bonding (HB) on the 13C chemical shift tensors in four solid amino acids was studied by the ab initio gauge-included atomic orbital (GIAO) approach. The results of the present calculations were compared with those predicted previously and with the experimentally observed shi
