✦ Synopsis
A new subcell model of a thin-wire dipole antenna in the FDTD method has been proposed and evaluated. The model w x is a further extension of the standard algorithm 1, 2 . The new model gives much smaller errors in the resonant frequency and resistance of a dipole in a wide range of wire radius. The stability factor is given by an empirically derived formula for a given wire radius and mesh size. The new algorithm is computationally efficient, as the only difference in the FDTD code is in the field update formulas in the computational cells adjacent to the wire. The applicability of the algorithm is limited to dipoles or monopoles as sources of radiation.
