The development of catalytic, asymmetric transformations in water is a challenging task. The lanthanides are becoming reagents of choice for many Lewis acid-catalyzed reactions in aqueous media as they are water tolerant. However, enantioselective reactions catalyzed by lanthanides are difficult to
