The purpose of this study was to determine whether interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 gene polymorphisms were markers of susceptibility to or severity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Chinese patients. The study included 150 Chinese patients with SLE. A total of 130 unrelated healthy individuals li

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Like other allergic diseases, asthma results from multiple conditions. Asthmatic beginning and severity are mediated by both environmental and genetic factors. In asthma studies, important work is realization of the genetic background and identification of genetic factors resulting in asthma development and phenomena. Here, we investigated whether interleukin (IL)β18 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are involved in Chinese asthma patients. ILβ18 (ILβ18) SNP was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)βbased restriction analysis in 201 patients with asthma and 60 normal controls. Significant differences were found in the genotype distribution of ILβ18 SNP between asthma patients and controls (P=0.000003). Allelic frequency of the ILβ18 gene distinguished asthma patients from controls (P=0.000066). The results revealed a significant difference between asthma patients and normal controls in ILβ18 SNP and a statistical correlation between ILβ18 polymorphisms (105A/C) and asthma formation. We concluded that Chinese who carry the C/C homozygote of the ILβ18β105A/C gene polymorphism in coding regions may have a higher risk of developing asthma. J. Clin. Lab. Anal. 22:39β44, 2008. ## Abstract Asthma is an airway hyperresponsive disease characterized by the expression of multiple inflammatory genes, including cytokines. InterleukinβI and interleukinβ10 (ILβ1 and ILβ10) are cytokines that might play a role in the process of inflammation and are therefore considered to be invol
IL10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine that has been found to have lower production in macrophages and mononuclear cells from asthmatics. Since reduced IL10 levels may influence the severity of asthma phenotypes, we examined IL10 singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for association with asthma sever
Objective. To study the genetic association of interleukin-10 (IL-10) promoter polymorphisms in Southern Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to investigate possible associations with clinical manifestations of the disease. Methods. DNA was extracted from 88 Chinese patient
## Abstract Impaired debrisoquine metabolism resulting from defects in the cytochrome P450 __CYP2D6__βdebrisoquine hydroxylase gene has been shown to be associated with the development of Parkinson's disease(PD). We studied two polymorphisms in this gene in 207 Chinese PD patients and 227 control s
