Insulin, injected into the yolk sac of %day chick embryos, causes the appearance of c? number of malformations (Landauer, '47a). The incidence of abnormalities is dependent on dose. With two units of insulin injected at this time into eggs of White Leghorn fowl 4770 of the survivors of the 17th clay of development have shortened limbs ; administration of 5 units increases this to 87%. There is considerable variation 'Aided, in part, by a grant from the American Cancer Soeictp on the reeominendation of the Conuuittcc on Grmrtli of the National Resc;irc.li Council. 1% 'Landauer and Bliss ('46) have Rhown that eggs from White Leghorns may br selected as to degree of incidence of insulin induced rumlessnrsr. No selection was attempted in tlie mnterinl used for this work.
