✦ Synopsis
The present report describes a highly sensitive method for measuring tyrosine hydroxylase based on the enzymic decarboxylation of 14Ccarboxyl labeled n-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) formed from car-boxy1 labeled n-tyrosine. Radiochemical methods for the determination of tyrosine hydroxylase activity using the isolation of either 3H-water or 3H-dopa have been reported and are commonly used (1,2). We have found the method outlined herein to be more sensitive than the currently available assays for tyrosine hydroxylase and it is relatively rapid and convenient. An analogous procedure for assay of tryptophan monooxygenase was reported (3) while this work was in progress.
