One of the important factors that must be considered in evaluating the integrity of structures for further use after exposure to fire is whether the fire endurance of specific structural elements or a structural assembly has been reduced to a value less than that required by the building code. โฆ Synopsis
Concrete structures are not necessarily safe during a fire. Thermal exposure will suddenly cause failures to the concrete structural units. Improper design increases the probability of failure. For instance, the structural unit can collapse as a result of explosive spaUing during the f'wst thirty minutes of a fire.
There are several different models for temperature.time curves of fire exposure. The temperature-time curves take account among others of fire load intensity, type of fire compartment and opening factor of fire compartmenL However, it is the temperature-time curve oflS0-834, the international standard o f fire exposure, which is normally usecL
In this paper only the fundamentals for fire design of concrete beams and slabs are discussed As the building regulations are dissimilar in different countries, the exact design parameters are not discussed
