โœฆ Synopsis

Artery grafts appear to have no significant advantages over vein grafts in experimental models. Research in preservation of artery grafts continues, and holds possibilities of creating stored grafts that can be used clinically. Clinical use of artery grafts in microsurgery is limited to anecdotal use of arteries harvested from damaged body parts in emergencies and use of branched grafts from the subscapular system in elective arterial reconstruction. These clinical uses have never been analyzed, and their reliability and advantages remain undefined.

## Abstract This paper describes surgical techniques and results of lower extremity microsurgical reconstruction using vein grafts. During a 5 year period, free tissue transfers were used to reconstruct 118 lower extremity defects in 109 patients. In 28 of these cases (24%), saphenous vein grafts w

The radial artery is being used with increasing frequency to replace the saphenous vein as a coronary artery bypass graft, in the belief that it will provide improved long-term patency. Several centers have confirmed that the early results of surgery using the radial artery seem to be better than th
