It is shown that important histological changes occur in autografts in the rat aorta. These changes include the loss of endothelium and the degeneration of elastin.

Such changes may be the result of ischaemia in the grafts caused by destruction of the vasa vasorum. ARTERIES are living structures and thus have a definite blood-supply.
