## Abstract The iron chelator desferrioxamine (DFO) induces accumulation of the hypoxia‐inducible factor (HIF‐1), a transcription factor that up‐regulates genes involved in adaptative responses to hypoxia. This property makes DFO a potential neuroprotector against hypoxic stress. We investigated in
