✦ Synopsis

The i.r. (504000 cm-') and Raman (70-3500 cm-') spectra of (CH&AsHBX, where X = Cl, Br, I were recorded at room temperature and the fundamental vibrations assigned on the basis of C, molecular symmetry. A modified Urey-Bradley force field was used to calculate frequencies, potential energy distributions and force constants. The As-B force constant values were found to support expected trends in the Lewis acid and Lewis base strengths.
