โฆ Synopsis
A~tract~opolymers ofcyclohexene and cyclohexa-l,3-diene with sulphur dioxide have been prepared [poly-l,2-(cyclohexane)sulphone and poly-l,4-(cyclohexa-2-ene)sulphone, respectively], and a study made of their aromatization. It was found that the latter copolymer only could be partially aromatized by using bromine-sulpholane, sulphur-dimethylformamide or selenium dioxide--decalin. The properties of the polymers are discussed in relation to the proportion of aromatic character. The scope and limitations of introducing aromatic rings into a polymer chain, by an addition polymerization of cyclohexyl derivatives followed by dehydrogenation, are discussed.

A Raman spectroscopic method has been developed that allows the precise and rapid determination of the degree of sulphonation (DS) of sulphonated poly(aryl ether sulphone). The calibration samples were characterized extensively by several independent reference techniques. It was possible to identify
Blends of poly(hydroxyether of phenolphthalein) (PHP) with poly(ether sulphone) (PES) were prepared by casting from a common solvent; they were found to be miscible and show a single, composition-dependent glass transition temperature. All the PHP/PES blends exhibited lower critical solution tempera
