By means of dimensional analysis, geometric, and physical optic approximation, a new method is suggested for the electromagnetic scattering measurement of a fully coated lossy target. Using this method, ( ) a model measurement for the radar cross section RCS can be carried out at the same frequency

โฆ Synopsis
This article proiides a discussion of the relationship between the geometric und arithmetic mean of a target radar cross section (RCS). A plot of /he expected difference between the geometric and arithmetic means of data sets from a log-normal probability densiy function (pdf) ijersus the standard deuiation of the data set is presented. This is folluwed by results jirom a subset of actual test data, which indicate that, for a T-72 (Russian tunk) measured at 35 GHz, the difference between these two computations may be less thun I dB. A larger data set of seileral different types of ground uehicles is then used to test the robustness of the transformation. These data showed a wider oariation between the two means, and the result ofthe transfornation shows deriations as large as 2 dB, suggesting that transformation of the means for data that are not truly log-normal can induce noticeable errors. A complete derii'ation of the transformation between the two different means, when the data are log-nomal distributed and the standard deviation is known, is provided.
