β¦ Synopsis
application is followed by axonal sprouting and consecutive reinnervation of muscle fibers [15]. To date, it is unknown whether sprouting also occurs in autonomic nerve endings after treatment with BTX.
There was no primary treatment failure in our group. Secondary failure due to antibody formation against BTX has not been observed to date but is unlikely with the low dosage used.
Patients suffering from GS may therefore expect a long-term benefit from treatment with BTX, reducing effort and costs of this treatment substantially. In conclusion, intracutaneous injections of BTX may become the therapy of choice for patients with GS.
