## Abstract Checkpoint genes, activated in response to DNA damage and other stresses, are frequently targeted for alteration in cancer. Checkpoint kinase 2 (__CHK2, CDS1, RAD53__) is activated by ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) in response to Ξ³ irradiation. Activated __CHK2__ stabilizes TP53, a
