β¦ Synopsis
In the BPSCCO system of type 2212 a clear correlation between the Pb content, the structural modulation and the dimensions of the subcell exists. Pb-rich 2212 material is modulation-free and has been prepared with high purity via solid state reaction in flowing Ar. A transition to superconductivity at about 90 K is directly obtained. The superconductivity is bulk (Meissner fraction: 20-30%). The existence of modulation-free 22 12 superconductors demonstrates that neither interstitial oxygen nor structural modulation is necessary for the occurrence of superconductivity.
