Aqua America is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. is engaged in operating regulated utilities that provide water or wastewater services to approximately 2.5 million people in 14 states. Co.'s largest subsidiary, Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. provides water or wastewater services to about 1.3 million residents in the suburban areas north and west of the city of Philadelphia and 19 other counties in PA. Co. also provides water and wastewater services through operating and maintenance contracts with municipal authorities and other parties close to its operating companies' service territories. Co. is the largest U.S.‐based publicly‐traded water utility based on number of people served.
