We are very glad to introduce this issue that collects papers describing new developments and extensions of topics and results presented at the seventh IMACS/ISGG workshop, MASCOT07 -7th Meeting on Applied Scientific Computing and Tools -Grid Generation, Approximation and Visualization, held in Rome, Italy, September 13-14, 2007. After a deep reviewing process the selected papers illustrate new advances and state-of-the art in scientific computing involving numerical grid generation methods and approximation algorithms, simulation methodologies and applications, along with information technologies.
MASCOT07 was under the auspices of IMACS, the International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, ISGG, the International Society of Grid Generation, IAC, the Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo-CNR in Roma and the Italian Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SIMAI-Società Italiana per la Matematica Applicata e Industriale).
We recall that the workshop MASCOT07 had the pleasure to host activities of the European Atelier for Engineering and Computational Sciences (EUA4X), which was a Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses Project (Contract number MSCF-CT-2004-01333), 2005-2007, with TCN as Coordinator. IAC-CNR, as partner of the project, organized in 2007 the EUA4X meeting: EUA4X Computational Field Simulation Days III (EUA4X#31), Conference type event.
The international group of young attendees as guest participants, selected by international call to submit applications for support, met internationally known workshop speakers in a profitable scientific atmosphere.
In order to promote dissemination of scientific results, the MASCOT07 Book of Proceedings, (IMACS Series in Computational and Applied Mathematics, v.13), has been published and collects papers which illustrate scientific backgrounds, research approaches and results presented at the workshop. This issue provides one more archived publication with the objective of disseminating new advances and methodologies derived by the enabling technologies and approaches showed at the workshop to potentiate scientific computing environments.
Even for this publication we wish to express our gratitude to all authors for contributing to this issue. We extend our gratitude, along with special thanks, to all the referees for their accurate reviewing and comments which have been precious for carrying out a high qualified refereeing process.
