given in Table 10.6 and found it extremely efficient and reliable for solving general linearized eigenvalue problems resulting from finite element models, both for dynamic problems where eigenvalues are all positive and for stability problems where eigenvalues may be positive or negative (both cases were considered). The algorithm performed very well and compared favourably with the 'subspace method' presented by K. J. Bathe and E. L. Wilson, Numerical Methods in Finite Element Analysis, Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., 1976. The 'subspace method' as programmed there could not be used for the case where some negative eigenvalues occurred.
In summary, the reviewer found the present book well written and edited. It should be a valuable addition to the library of those interested in matrix calculations.
