β¦ Synopsis
Most commercial metal forming processes are characterised by highly nonlinear material behaviour, extensive sliding contact between the workpiece and tools, and very large material strains. These aspects mean that the finite element analysis of sheet and bulk forming is very complex.
In this paper a number of recent developments in the finite element analysis of metal lbrming are discussed. Implicit and explicit analyses with the nonlinear finite element program, ABAQUS, are presented, with emphasis on the advantages and disadvantages of each technique for complex analyses involving contact.
Existing techniques for quasi-static explicit analysis are considered and a new option of a combined explicit-implicit approach and a new solver technology are reviewed.
