โœฆ Synopsis

The 1982 American Rheumatism Association revised criteria for the classification of systemic lupus erythematosus were tested on Japanese patients. Sensitivity and specificity data were comparable with those presented in the development of the revised criteria by the American Rheumatism Association. Complement determinations were evaluated for their ability to improve the criteria for the diagnosis of early systemic lupus erythematosus.

The 1982 American Rheumatism Association (ARA,) revised criteria for the classification of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (1) were applied to Japanese patients. This study evaluated the revised criteria in the context of 2 questions: How effective are the revised criteria when tested against a patient population outside the United States? How much do the slensitivity and specificity of the revised criteria depend on the point in the course of the patient's illness at which they are applied?
