✦ Synopsis

Starting from the results of Reference 1, models for the calculation of sorption uptake curves of multicomponent fluid mixtures have been developed by means of the Volterra integral equation approach*. Special regard has been paid to the influence of apparatus effects, e.g. the limited rate of the transport of sorbing species through the dosing system on the overall sorption kinetics. This phenomenon has to be taken into account as the actual sorption kinetics are comparatively fast. With regard to specific experimental arrangements, several models developed for single component systems2*3 have been extended to the multi-component case. Compared to the method of statistical moments4, an entirely new approach became available. The systems of equations derived represent the theoretical basis for the development of universal experimental methods for the investigation of sorption kinetics of mixtures in porous solids.
