✦ Synopsis

Since 1959 the NGU has performed airborne geophysical surveys using fix-wing and rotary wing instrument carriers. From 1963 the Norwegian offshore areas were included and a complete aeromagnetic coverage between Ekofish and BjcrnOya was obtained in 1976.

Recent advances in instrument design, extremely high position accuracies through use of the GPS system and advanced image analysis yield significantly better magnetic data and maps. The overall improvement in accuracy often entitles areas flown in the past to be resurveyed.

Petrophysical measurements and mineral studies on shallow offshore drillcores will hopefully explain the causes of the minute anomalies derived from the sediments.
