✦ Synopsis


The applicability of Kolmogoroff s theory of local isotropic turbulence to problems involving particb-liquid mass transfer in turbulent flow is critically examined. With certain assumptions this theory leads to the conclusion that the hydrodynamics of mass transfer can be accounted for by a single parameter; the power input per unit mass. Evidence is presented from the literature to show that Power input oer unit mass is not a successful method of correlating mass transfer rates to particles suspended inagitated vessels.

In an earlier paper (11), the continuous-phase mass transfer coefficients resulting from the continuous-flow contact of ethyl acetate and water in an agitated vessel, ethyl acetate dispersed, were reported to be substantially larger than might be expected from consideration of the data obtained from
