✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is applied in the study of interactions between PVC resin and plasticizers in flexible PVC systems. The comparison of the theoretical infrared spectra coming from the addition of the respective component infrared spectra with those of PVC/plasticizer experimental systems gives information about polymer/plasticizer interaction degree. In addition, solvation capacity of the plasticizer varies as a function of its chemical structure, giving rise to compatibility differences between the system components. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
