✦ Synopsis
In wavelength-routed optical networks, the transmission performance of the optical lightpaths available may not always satisfy the service requirements due to the degradation of signals induced by crosstalk, polarized mode dispersion (PMD), nonlinear effects, etc. This paper is to incorporate the role of transmission performance analysis in dynamic resource allocation by employing appropriate models of crosstalk accumulation and PMD so that the BER of a candidate lightpath can be estimated, in advance, to determine if this lightpath should be used for the call. An efficient algorithm that can improve the simulation speed significantly with no loss of accuracy is given in detail.
