✦ Synopsis
Application of two decomposition/coordination methods to parameter identification problems for interconnected distributed parameter systems of parabolic type is treated. After formulation of both methods--penalization and re-injection-and some remarks with respect to treatment of parameters occurring simultaneously in several subsystems, the problem of convergence of the decomposed estimates is addressed. This is attacked by a linearization around the actual parameter set, which allows us to solve the identification problems on the subsystem level directly. A simple example is used to demonstrate some features of coupled and decomposed identification procedures and to show the actual regions of local convergence for different sensor locations.
