โœฆ Synopsis

Automatic dierentiation is an approach to numerically compute derivatives both accurately and eciently. This can be quite valuable, for example, in the fully implicit solution of compositional reservoir equations. We describe the procedures necessary to apply the ADIFOR (Automatic Dierentiation of Fortran) tool to the IPARS (Integrated Parallel Accurate Reservoir Simulator) compositional reservoir simulator and the approaches used to exploit the sparsity in the required Jacobian matrix. Values and execution times of the ADIFOR-generated derivatives are compared with a handwritten code that implements analytically derived expressions for the derivatives.

The importance of metrics in software projects is well known. Assessing and controlling quality and productivity in large scale environments requires the establishment of software measurement systems for both products and processes. Product and process measurements should be considered simultaneousl

This paper describes a numerical procedure to model the crack front evolution of initially arbitrary shaped planar cracks in a three-dimensional solid. The influence of a bimaterial interface on the fracture path of a semi-elliptical surface crack in a three-dimensional structure is examined. The an
