Abstract

The adaptive local cosine transform (ALCT) is applied to identify the time‐frequency distribution of an ultra‐wideband signal transmitted through a dispersive propagation channel in the presence of noise. The estimated time‐frequency distribution is then used to detect subsequently transmitted signals. Simulation results show the ALCT outperforms the traditional short‐time Fourier transform. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
