โœฆ Synopsis

The Stem-Volmer equation in the Smoluchowski-Collins-Kimball approximation is modified by the use of a most probable nearest neighbour separation as an upper integration limit of the time-independent flux equation. The resulting relationship provides a description of the experimental relative fluorescence yield for 111 data points in 12 systems with an overall average deviation of 2.3%, and affords realistic estimates of the relative diffusion coefficient and (in the diffusion-controlled limit) the encounter diameter.
