✦ Synopsis

A prototype knowledge-based expert system has been developed for minimum weight design of steel plate girder highway bridges. This expert system, called PG-BRIDGEI, is a coupled system in which AI-based symbolic processing is combined with traditional numerical processing. The architecture of the system has been presented in an accompanying article ~. This paper presents an application and abbreviated consultation with PG-BRIDGE1.
