✦ Synopsis


Isolated patella aplasia-hypoplasia without associated clinical or radiological anomalies is an extremely rare autosomal dominant disorder (Bongers et al., 2005). Isolated patella aplasia-hypoplasia has been reported only in one sporadic case and five families in the literature (Kutz, 1949;Bongers et al., 2002Bongers et al., , 2005)). We examined one case with bilateral permanent patellar dislocation of aplastic or hypoplastic patellae and a part of the aplastic patella tissue was histologically evaluated. This is a first report describing the histological evaluation of aplastic patella tissue.

A 22-year-old woman first visited our hospital because of bilateral permanent patellar dislocation. At the age of 14 years, she sustained her first major giving-way on the right side when clearing a hurdle. After the high school, she quit sports activities due to occasional giving-ways.
