โœฆ Synopsis

A species of Aphanomyces De Bary was found inciting a destructive root rot disease o fcauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata) in the heavy soil fields of Varanasi, U. P. The pathogen was isolated on corn meal agar and oat meal agar. Cultural characters, morphology and development and life cycle of the fungus were studied and described. Inoculation studies, development and life cycle indicated the pathogen an undescribed species and was, therefore, described as a new species Aphanomyces brassicae Pavgi and Singh.
