## Abstract Titania powders have been prepared by the sol‐gel route from Ti (IV) ethoxide under acidic conditions. Adsorption experiments of calcium and phosphate ions on gel‐derived titania suspensions were performed to suggest a likely initial step of apatite growth on its surface. Experiments we
