The pressor, renal and endocrine effect of the physiological precursor of endothelial derived nitric oxide, L-arginine was compared, with a substrate inactive on nitric oxide, hypertonic D-glucose, in hypertensive patients. Ten mild-moderate essential hypertensives were assigned to either L-arginine
